How many people are allowed in a student apartment?
Only one person is allowed in our furnished apartments and in our unfurnished apartments max two people are allowed.
Is it allowed for two people to live in a student apartment if only one is studing?
Yes, but then the student have to apply and own the lease.
Who gets to rent a student apartment?
To be qualified to rent an apartment you have to be a student at University of Borås.
Do I need points to apply for a student apartment?
No, there is no point system but it´s first come first get principle.
Am I allowed to have a pet in my student apartment?
Yes, we allow pets.
When should it be silent in the apartment?
It should be silent after 22.00. If you can´t sleep we have a fantastic nightlife here in Borås for you to explore.
Can I smoke inside?
No

Can I rent a apartment if I´m a student at high school other educations?
No, only students at University of Borås.
Does the 10 month rent principle apply here?
Yes, but only if you live in one of our student apartments at Distansgatan.
How long is the notice period for a student apartment?
It is one month notice period for a student rooms, and apartments at Distansgatan. It is three months notice period on other student apartments.
Why is it important to be registered at the right address?
A lot of rights and obligations are connected to the address you are registered to, like the right to apply for financial contributions, or to apply for scholarships or where you get to vote and where you pay for taxes. If you are registered to the right address it makes it easier with the insurance, electrical and other practical needs.
A wrongful registration of your home address can give you economical consequences. Like if you apply for housing allowance and it can look like you have roommate. You can also be in trouble if the person you are living with is being searched by Kronofogden or other debt collection companies.
What about international studies?
A student that moves to Sweden and are planning to live and study here for a year or more, have to be registered at the address even if you move from Sweden or will be away for a year or more you still have to be registered. It doesn´t matter if you are a Swedish citizen or not.

What rules applies if I want to rent my student apartment to another student?
First you should have a reason for renting the apartment out, and you should also have reason to move back in after a year or so. Your guest should also be a student at University of Borås. You are able to rent it out for at least three months to max two years. To apply you need to have one of the following reasons: international studies, practice studies in another town, sickness or if you would like to do a living with a partner-test.

Paying the rent
While in Sweden you will receive invoices from us regarding the rent. Then there are several ways to pay the rent.
The invoice glossary will help you understand them.
Please note that the upper half of the invoice sheet contains all the information you need to verify that the invoice is correct and yours to pay. The lower half of the sheet is a tear-off postal giro deposit slip. It contains all the information you need to pay the rent. Failure to pay the rent in time might lead to eviction!
You are requested to pay your rent via postal giro to our account. There are different ways to make the payment.
#1 You may pay in cash or with a card to any bank. Please note that the banks will impose an administrative fee per postal giro deposit slip. These fees will be different depending on which bank you go to but is usually between 40-120 SEK.
#2 Should you have a Swedish bank account your bank may offer special services concerning postal giro such as transfer of money free of administrative fees or Internet banking. Opening a bank account may be advantageous as it can also help you avoid fees associated with, for example, withdrawing money from bank machines (ATM:s).
Students who would like to pay the rent for several months at once can do so by using the reference number ( to be found at the bottom of the rent notification) of the first invoice received while doing the payment.

Please also state your name and date of birth so that we can identify the payment. If you have received an invoice, always state the ”avinummer” (number of notification).
Please note that you have to make the payment in Swedish kronor (SEK) and without any charge for the recipient.
To open a bank account in Sweden you should be prepared to bring with you the following:
- Passport
- Residence permit
- Registration papers in Swedish showing how long your studies will last (can be picked up from Högskolan I Borås)
- Proof of your address (a copy of your rental contract or a receipt from an invoice will work)
- If you have registered for a Swedish personal identity number then you should bring a recent copy (no more than 2 weeks old) of a personbevis. This is a paper showing your personal identity number. It can be acquired be either ordering one over the telephone 020-567 000, or by visiting the local office tax office (Skatteverket). You can also contact your home bank and check what the possibilities are for you as a foreign exchange student in Sweden.
What happens if I don’t pay my rent in time?
If you don’t pay the rent in time you will get a automatic text reminder at the 5th-6th of the month. At the 10th you will get a debt collection with a late fee (180 sek) that we will apply on your next rent. If you don’t pay after that, you will get a reminder from our debt partner Collector and we will also send the information to the social services.
When the errand turns into a reminder with our debt partner you will be at risk of losing your apartment or you chance to rent. Which means you will have to move out. If you have a lot of late rent errands it can also be a reason for you to lose your apartment and chance to rent.
